China Glaze: Scattered and Tattered over Naked

Haven't had a nail post in so long! I wanted to do a red mani, but the only red I had around was China Glaze's Scattered and Tattered from their Glitz Bitz 'n Pieces collection, which I picked up at Sally's not too long ago. 

Deciding on a base coat was challenging, but I decided to go with a pink, China Glaze's Naked which I got as a set for Breast Cancer Awareness. 

Scattered and Tattered (1 coat) over Naked (3 coats)

Naked

Application: The formula was on the thinner side, but easy to work with. It took three coats before I was satisfied. Two coats still had a bit of visible nail line.

Color: It's a hot pink with very fine shimmers. 

Overall: I'm happy with it. But it started chipping/wearing really quickly. I took the photo a day after I applied it.

Scattered and Tattered

Application: Nothing wrong with it. I used one coat and it was pretty dense, so I was satisfied.

Color: It's black and red glitters of all shapes and sizes (stringy, hexagon, circle); clear base

Overall: It's a fun polish to play with, but since it's red, I have no idea what to pair it with.

Maybelline Blue Marks the Spot // China Glaze Electric Beat

I was at Target the other day and saw a display with Maybelline's new Polka Dot collection. I picked up Blue Marks the Spot for $2.99 and tried it when I got home. It seemed kind of sheer and I didn't want too much glitter so I used a similar base color. Electric Beat is from last spring's Electropop collection.

Blue Marks the Spot was easy to apply and wasn't sparse. Maybelline also has just the glitter one called Clearly Spotted and I'd rather get that (didn't see it at Target) because it's more versatile to layer over any base color.

Milky Blue Pastel

It's been a month since my last nail post. I stopped by a Walmart during my Maine trip for some bug spray and remembered to check out the nail polish hoping to find Hard Candy's Black Tie Optional, and found the polishes on the wall :D I couldn't find any in the Walmart nearby. 

Hard Candy Sweet Tooth (1 coat) over Revlon Blue Lagoon (2-3 coats) + Seche

(Excuse the mess from the application..I'm no good at cleaning up, so I don't bother ^^;)

I didn't want my nails to be overwhelming with glitter, so I used a light blue base and added one coat of Sweet Tooth. It seemed a bit thick, but overall I didn't have an issue with it. No need to fish for glitter either. 

Urban Outfitters: Lollipop

Hi! I passed by Urban Outfitters the other day so I dropped by because I had a few minutes to spare and found Lollipop on clearance. All the glitter reminded me of an indie polish, so I wanted to get it. Can you believe it's been three months since my last nail post?

Urban Outfitters Glitter (three coats+top coat)

Application: Lollipop was very easy to apply! Just shake it up and you'll be sure to grab a lot of glitter on your brush. You need to shake it to get the hex glitters though. The intensity of the glitter builds up with every coat, so if you don't want a lot of glitter like mine (three coats) then just do one coat over a base color because you'll actually need three coats for the pink to be opaque. I had no problems with streaking or anything. 

Color: It's a bubble gum pink with a variety of small blue, green, red, silver, and gold glitters and larger hex glitters. The pink in my photos is slightly lighter than what it is in person.

Overall: I'm very happy with this polish :D I'm actually tempted to go get an extra or something. It started chipping after a few days but most of my nails are still in tact. 

My nails are starting to grow out again, so I don't have to hide them as much anymore :P So until next time!

Love & Beauty: Peach

100th post!! For the past few weeks I was hoping that I'd have a special post for this one, but there hasn't been anything important going on lately, so all I have is a swatch. But I just wanted to say thanks to all my readers who have been supporting my blog :)

Last week I picked up a few new nail polishes and one of them is Peach from Forever 21's Love & Beauty collection. They really should start coming up with better names or at least code them because aside from the lack of creativity, I'm pretty sure they use the same names for different polishes.

Love & Beauty Peach; three coats

I think peach is a suitable name for the color though. It's a very pretty, warm color with golden and green shimmers that gives it the extra touch. I'm a bit disappointed with how sheer it is though. I used three coats and you can still see my nail line. It's less noticeable in person though, but it's still there. I'm sure it can be opaque with more coats or thicker ones (I tend to apply with thinner coats) and my friend used it over a gray or taupe polish and it looked nice, so I'll definitely keep this one in mind for layering. 

I didn't have a problem with the formula and I loved the color. Definitely a polish that you should add to your collection! 

China Glaze: Luxe and Lush

Today I have for you China Glaze's Luxe and Lush from their Capitol Games Hunger Games collection. Banny this one's for you :)

I paired it with this unnamed gold polish that I got in a set from this post.  

If I remember correctly, I used three coats of the gold polish and two of Luxe and Lush. I know my camera didn't capture the effects that well, but it glistened in gold/yellow and green at certain angles so it was really pretty. 

Removing it wasn't that bad either. You just have to rub a bit and it comes right off, definitely easier to remove than glitter.

Wet n Wild Spoiled Are Mermaids Real?

Today I have another swatch :) Once again I couldn't get away from painting my nails. I took the pictures like 3 days later, so there's some tip wear. 

Bottle:

Are Mermaids Real? is the perfect violet/purple color. It's neither too dark nor too light, so it's the color purple that you'd normally think of. Application was good, it was pretty opaque after the first coat, but a second coat is needed to fix any uneven spots. It has plenty of small gold flecks, as you can see.

My camera couldn't capture the color and it turned out a lot more blue than it is. Are Mermaids Real? isn't blue at all in person, and there's no doubt that it's a violet color. I edited the above three photos to make them more purple, like how it looks in person. But for reference, here's an unedited photo (all the other photos actually turned out more blue than this one):

For some reason I always have an issue with my right hand chipping. I have tip wear on my left, but on my right hand, three of my nails already have a large chip on one corner. 

Sally Hansen Hard As Nail Ice

Hi :) So today I have a swatch for everyone. Not really the best photos, but bear with me ^^

I purchased Ice last year during a sale at CVS for 75% the original price. On the bottle, it's a light pink frosty color. If you look closely, there's a hint of fine, shimmer.

The color wasn't as pink on the nail as on the bottom, but you can definitely see the pink there. It's a frosty finish, so the brush strokes are really obvious, as you can see on my photos. It sorta reminds me of a pearl and very, very slight metallic finish, but I'm no expert, so I won't say positively.

Anyways, it's a very pretty color, just I dunno why it looked so beat up once it dried :\

Orly After Party

Orly After Party is part of the Summer 2012 Feel the Vibe collection. It's a very dark color for the summer... so not something I'd wear again until the winter.

Not sure why my thumb looks so weird lol. I used two coats.

The combination of the micro glitters drew me in when I found it at Sally's, so I had to get it! While I think it looks exactly like it does on the nail and the bottle, when it's on it just feels darker.. indoors it's basically black from afar, but you can see the color a bit more up close. It's a very fitting color for the winter and gives it that extra boost from just plain black.
